'Gold Mound' spirea is a cultivar deciduous shrub in the Roseaceae (rose) family with vibrant golden colored foliage. It is a hybrid cross between S. japonica 'Alpina' and S. japonica 'GoldFlame'. This beautiful compact shrub will produce tiny flat-topped clusters of pink flowers and ovate leaves that will change colors with the season. Flower blooms from spring to summer. The brilliant foliage will turn yellow-greenish in the heat of the summer and then yellow-orange red in the fall when the weather cools. Beautiful chartreuse foliage for multi-season interest. Compact form and mound-like habit, it can grow up to 2-3 feet tall and 4 feet wide when matured. Moderate growth rate. Great for containers, specimen planting, small groups, borders, along a foundation, or low hedge. Grows in zones 4-8 and prefers full sun to partial sun and moist, well-drained soil. Planting in a sunny spot will ensure the best foliage color.
